This is a Thick Wood Cutting Board and measures 2” thick or greater and made from a kiln dried, solid black walnut wood slab that we air dry for two years. Wood Cutting Board thickness is important, and our extra board thickness makes our boards more durable and longer lasting. Additionally, a thicker board translates to a heavier board which increases stability on the counter making it comfortable to work on. Our thicker board design reveals a hefty form giving it greater natural appeal that looks great on the table or standing on edge against the counter backsplash. Black Walnut wood is a popular hardwood for making Custom Cutting Boards because of its rich coffee-brown heartwood and contrasting cream-white sapwood – its hardness of 950 lbf (Janka Scale) make it easy on knife edges yet durable and long lasting. Black Walnut is a closed grain / non-porous wood that resists liquid (food juices and blood) absorption into the wood helping to stop bacteria contamination.
