BOARD DESCRIPTION: Our Walnut Cross Cut Charcuterie Boards offer the perfect oval shape when used as a grazing board or for charcuterie. Serve a variety of cheeses and meats accompanied by dried and fresh fruits and nuts, pickles, olives and dips. These cross-cut boards provide the space and organic appeal making for a one of a kind presentation.
Our Live-Edge Black Walnut Cross-Cut “CHARCUTERIE” Boards are a solid cross-cut (end-grain) wood slab at a specific thickness sawn from a log. From the tree’s pith and early year growth rings through the heartwood and sapwood the entire story of the life of the tree is told through the beautiful wavy figure. These boards are air dried for two years until kiln dried, planed, and sanded. Each board has its bark removed and sapwood lightly sanded – larger cracks are filled with an epoxy which adds to the woods solidness.
WOOD: Walnut cross-cuts require a little more care and time than typical face-grain wood slabs throughout the drying process. Once sawn, the cross-cut wood slabs are stacked with sticks, covered with shade cloth and protected from weather, then air dried for a year or more until ready for the kiln. Additional effort is taken throughout the drying process to prevent cracking.
Black Walnut has a sapwood that is nearly white while its heartwood can be from a lighter pale brown to a rich coffee brown and at times may have a purplish cast and typically always has dark brown streaks. Figured grain patterns such as curly or limb crotch are common.
BOARD CARE: ZimBOARD Cutting Boards are solid single piece cutting boards and therefore require simple routine maintenance. Boards should be stored on edge allowing for uniform exposure to the surrounding atmosphere and oiled using a food grade mineral oil or cutting board conditioner.
